Maine Hunting |
Jackman is well known for its heavy-bodied bucks. There are many bucks taken every year that dress out over 200 pounds. Several are also taken that make it into the Antler and Skull Trophy Club. We specialize in hunting for these prize bucks. The reason why so many hunters flock here to have their chance at a whitetail, is not because there are so many of them, but because of their size. The average 4 1/2 year old buck weighs in at a whopping 200 to 230 pounds, and that's field dressed folks! "Biggest buck shot by a Cedar Ridge Customer was 260 pounds, after field dressing."

Hal Blood has captured the attention of the Hunting world. He has taken over 36 whitetail bucks in his lifetime and more than half of those have been over 200 pounds (fully dressed). He not only is one of the best hunters in the world, he is a wonderful teacher and loves to share his gift with others with that dream of chasing that monster trophy. Hal does not guide deer hunters these days, but he does teach a deer clinic in the spring to share his knowledge with others.

There are record class bucks here in the area and in the state of Maine. Not only do they grow big in body size, but check out these bucks that are being winter fed. Hal and Deb took some of these photos and one of our guides Jim Bernardin took some in a different area. No these bucks are not behind every tree, but this area does have some really big deer. Be in the best shape of your life, hunt long and hard, listen to your guide and you may get a shot at a buck that looks like one of these bad boys.

"Hal & Deb - I just wanted to let you both know we had a great time at your camp during our hunt. We especially enjoyed the family atmosphere at meal time. It was very relaxed and comfortable and the home cooked food hit the spot. Seeing your grand kids come in on Halloween night was special. I could see Hal's eyes light up when the little one sat on his lap. I know the feeling. Jim Gracia
"Hey! Hal and Deb I had a great time at your remote camp. Our guide Mike has great skills and Passion. He showed us some great areas to hunt. I saw deer every day I hunted. Ended up with a nice big woods buck. Thanks for the great gift. I look forward to hunting with you again."Heath Higgins, 2009
"Hal & Deb, I just wanted to thank you for the hospitality I experienced again this year at Cedar Ridge Outfitters. My hunt at the west remote camp with Mike Featherstone was again outstanding and despite the unseasonably warm weather and minimal deer activity kept me motivated to stay on stand all day - all week. I had my chance on the last morning at a nice buck and I learned a lot from that experience...I have decided to make the remote camp with mike and Cedar Ridge Outfitters my annual trip in the future."Mike Jones, Carver, MA 2009
"I just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for such a great week last week. Sean and I had a great time and considered turning around at the Forks and coming back. Food and accommodations were terrific. Also we can't say enough about Kevin. It was like we were hunting with our long lost friend. Not sure how you managed to hire a guide who is part mountain goat – but great going. I was quite surprised that I actually put on a few pounds last week, I guess that is the best of both worlds."John Lamb

"Your inquiry about booking a hunt with Cedar Ridge Outfitters can be answered in just two words...DO IT! Hal and Debbie Blood are a wonderful, hardworking couple who built their sporting camps for the love of hunting and helping others bag a buck. Hal's incredible knowledge and zest for tracking big woods bucks, coupled with Debbie's proficient eye for cooking and comfort, have made them tops in the business. What's extra special about their operation is that the qualities and talents they possess are equally apparent in the guides and staff they employ."Roger Kingsley
"I just wanted to drop you a line to say that Eric and I had a great time with you and your staff. The accommodations were great, the food unbelievable, and the guides were top notch. I really can't say enough about the professionalism and effort that Kevin and Lee put forth to make our experience a memorable one."Bill Woodhouse
"Thank you for the hospitality and professionalism our group experienced last week at your remote camp. The entire trip was an experience we will not soon forget and we are already looking forward to next year. Mike Featherstone went above and beyond all of our expectations and is the perfect guide for the Remote site. The food was excellent (especially the deserts!!!) and the whole experience of staying in a traditional deer camp was great."Michael Jones
"Hal and Deb, you guy’s are and have a very unique place up there in Maine. I just love spending time there and even enjoy the hard time Hal gives me. You just got to love him. What can I say about your cooking. WOW!!!! Not a better place to fill your belly w/ the best down home meals a MOM could create. And hunt with the best deer hunter this world has seen."Scott Fulner

Sadie Theriault, age 16, from Jackman, Maine.
Sadie's Dad, Norm, guides for us. She scouted out an area all
on her own, sat every day after school and shot this nice buck.
Sadie shot her buck during the 2009 muzzleload season. This
178 lb 8 pointer, scoring in at just 125 points, makes the
Maine "MASTC" scoring club under muzzleload category.
Congratulations Sadie!
