Moose Watching/Wildlife Photography

The Jackman Moose river area has some of the highest moose concentrations in the entire state. Depending on the time of year, will depend on how many moose you can see. There are a couple of places in the area that we can send you to, that offer "moose watching float trips". These are from either canoes or pontoon boats.

Or for the more adventurous, you can take a private "Wildlife photography" tour with one of our professional Maine guides. $200 per day, up to 4 people with one guide.

Please take note when driving up 201, Watch carefully for moose. They can weigh as much as 1,500 hundred pounds, it's like hitting a brick wall. Their hair is dark brown/black very hard to see them in the dark.

ATVing / 4 Wheeling
A few years ago the state of Maine went to a new law regulating ATVing. To go 4 wheeling in Maine you must "stay on marked ATV trails". And this area has some of the most challenging and scenic trails in Maine. Hundreds of well maintained trails, leading all over the state. No need to trailer your ATV to a trail, you can leave right from our cabins. For State laws and regulations go to www.mefishwildlife.com. You can register your ATV on line with them or wait and register in town at a local store. It is difficult to obtain commercial ATV insurance in the state of Maine, the only way that someone can "rent" a 4wheeler, is to go on a guided trip with someone that owns the ATV's, and they are fully insured. For now, we DO NOT rent ATV's, you must bring your own.

We offer guided trail rides $200 a day, up to 4 people, on your ATV's. Trails open around May 15th and close late into the fall.

Float Plane Rides & Bush Plane Rides
Whether it's taking off from the water or off a runway, taking one of these plane rides is one of the best and most scenic ways to see the area. We can set you up with a certified Bush pilot when you stay with us.

Hiking & Mountain biking
Take our scenic mountain trails that lead to breath-taking views atop some of our spectacular mountain peaks. Contact us for details.

Horseback Trail Rides
We DO NOT own horses, but we can point you to people that do when you stay with us. There are a Couple places in the area that offer these trips.

Fall & Winter Adventures

Snowmobiling in Maine
Trail access right from our warm and cozy cabins
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!

Cedar Ridge Outfitters is a four season resort, open year round. Besides the fall hunting season, winter here in the north western Mountains of Maine, is one of the best places for snowmobiling in the whole north east. On an average year Jackman gets 200 plus inches of snow between November and April. The area snowmobile club starts grooming the trails around December 15 (when the groomer contract starts) and ends about April 15th, as long as the snow lasts.

Winter is very popular here in Northern Maine. And Jackman is one of the most popular areas for snowmobiling. We often get the first snow of the year. And I've seen it snows right through April. Spring 2007 the area had over 4 feet of snow fall between the end of March and the middle of April.

"After eight straight years of coming to your place for our annual 5 day trip, all 18 of us this past weekend had a super time. As you know, I have brought anywhere from 17 to 25 on our annual trip, and after Sunday, the 2006 riders said the conditions were really, really good considering the weather. The average miles done were around 400, and the trails in the Jackman area were outstanding. Considering that Mother Nature has not been herself this season, the area had plenty of snow cover based on the rest of the New England area. Once again, thanks for the hospitality, lodging, and mosty importantly, the honest trail reports you and Hal have been sending via e-mail over the last few weeks."Jim Allen
Merrimack, NH

The town of Jackman is situated on the border of Quebec Canada, but is also right in the center of the White Mountain range from Mt. Washington in N.H. to Mt. Katahdin in central Maine. Elevation for this area is at approximately 1,400 feet, that’s for the town and Jackman's in a valley. Some of the trails here in this area are even further up in elevation, as much as 3,000 feet.

Jackman maintains some of the best snowmobile trails in the northeast. With an international trail system (ITS) to Canada, Eustis/Rangeley, Rockwood, the Forks and beyond. Here at Cedar Ridge Outfitters, you can snowmobile right from the cabins to the trails, no trailering.

Sign up here for honest weekly snow, weather and trail conditions, to get the most out of the sledding season.

We offer Guided "off trails" rides to places you would never find on your own and see things you wouldn't get to see by ITS trail riders or go on a Guided heart pounding "Extreme" ride to the top of the mountains. This ride is not for the faint of heart and takes a powerful snow machine to do it.

"Just a heads up, there were five couples up there this week from Monday to Friday we had all of our kids, the snow mobiling was the best I have ever ridden in Jackman from Pittston Farms to Rockland to Canada flat as a highway the whole way thru AWESOME. We all had a blast . Riding during the week is 100% better then the weekends the accommodations at Cedar Ridge are fabulous. LET IT SNOW!"Michael J McCarthy Jr.

$200 per day for guided trail rides up to 4 people.
$300 per day for off trail & extreme riding, up to 4
With more people in your group, add $25 per person.
$10 per person for "on the trail" guides lunch, served hot with a good hot fire to warm up by.

For snowmobile rentals there is a place just down the road a mile that rent sleds, log onto www.danasrentals.com.

Cedar ridge DOES NOT rent snowmobiles.

When the weather starts to warm in your part of the country it is still very much winter here and has nothing to do with our weather. Many people will call when it hits 60 at their home and ask if all the snow melted. It is amazing how many people do this. Trust me, our weather is a LOT colder and snowier than just 1 hour south of us. Mountain elevation is the key to our snow fall.

March riding gives us some of the best riding all year. It is most often when our snow is at its deepest. And this snow takes many weeks of warm weather to melt. When it gets warm at your place, it's still winter here in Jackman, ME. So don't put those sleds up just yet!!!

Combine any or all of these fun and exciting activities, with a homey, cozy cabin. Go to our accommodations page for cabin styles, photos and rates.

"Just to let you know Nicole and I had a great time last week. We logged in 600 miles, and it was the best riding we have seen in a long time. The cabin was about the best we have stayed in, and the cleanliness was impressive."George Cangiano

Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is another great winter activity here in the north is We offer guided snowshoeing treks into places you can't see from riding or driving. See and photograph wildlife, as you can sneak up on them better than on a snow machine.
$200 per day guided with a hot trail lunch
$25 per person to rent snowshoes

Please take note when driving up 201, Watch carefully for moose. They can weigh as much as 1,500 hundred pounds, it's like hitting a brick wall. Their hair is dark brown/black very hard to see them in the dark.
